Comments
Comments: Trail from the parking lot up to the second snowmobile trail crossing was fairly firm early this afternoon with only a few postholes. Full snowpack, probably about 2 feet deep, so snowshoes were nice.

The portion that follows the snowmobile trail was like walking on the beach due to the loose, fine granular. Snowshoes ideal, as Microspikes were not getting good purchase by the look of it.

From the snowmobile trail to the ledge switchback was rough, as someone had recently snowmobiled this section (before getting stuck and turning around). As a result of the snowmobile, the packed layer of footbed was tilled out. Folks without snowshoes were fairly frequently postholing and churning as a result.

Off trail, there is an inch or two of powder on top of a firm crust that will support snowshoes.

Beautiful sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 20s. Winter wonderland up high with snow on the trees. Mt. Washington visible from the summit.
