Parked at Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. The Trail was in excellent shape. Three Guides guided 11 brand new hikers up Mt. Washington for Redline Guiding. The large group all wore Snowshoes from Car to Car. Above Treeline right before Lake of the Clouds the North Wind started to cause some issues. Sun glare off the snow made for some bright conditions Goggles and face coverings were a must. Very bright above Alpine Zone. LOC gave the group great protection from the wind well we changed out layers and pushed for the summit. Crawford Trai was frozen snow which you can get away with snowshoes. .7th 10th of a mile from the summit you could've use Cramptons from junction sign to summit. Winds were gusty high 30's to low 40s. No issues with a weighted winter pack. I loved being on that summit in high winds. GEtting down I need some more practice. Going down to Waumbek Stations you need some solid traction to the station. Snowshoes were used did the job but you lose leg power and the legs get tired quick. Took the Cog and saw some really awesome Skiers getting in some really awesome runs. What a day. It was windy and cold and I felt extremly lucky being in those conditions. I am getting better and better in my learning in confidence to hike Washington in winter. What a thrill. |
