Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest with The Cone Demon, Shelly, and MattJim. Thanks to the group that had come up earlier in the week for putting down a nice snowshoe track for us to expand upon. Nothing really out of the ordinary or of note, you will 100% need snowshoes car to car - and this wont change anytime soon. Snow is very different than up in Stark, a thin layer of breakable crust with about 6-10" of powdered sugar underneath. It made for great breaking up the incredibly gentle ascent of Nancy. Trees are still heavily loaded with snow, but this may change with consistent warmups through the week as forecasted. Thankfully MattJim, who is seemingly more moose than man, was able to far more efficiently break trail up. One step forward two glissade steps back for us vertically challenged. Our route was path of least resistance of the ridge. We had loosely planned for Bemis but we all where soaked through by the summit outlook of Nancy. Looking down at a sea of white trees made the decision easy for us to live to die another day. There was some insane glisadding on the way out, if you heard four loud booms in rapid succession, it was us each hitting mach one on the way down. I am not sure if we just made it infinitely harder for those after us to get up there, or easier, with the snow consistency. I have only really skied on my snowshoes a few times, this was one of them. Plowed tons of pow pow. Watch your eyes, thank goodness I wear glasses or id be a pirate today... yarr!
