Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Spotted a car at the library around 9:15am with plenty of room (more room across the street), then drove over to Stearns Rd where there was a plowout with room for a few cars. We were the only ones there at 9:45am and 12pm. Stearns Rd is steep and dirt but well plowed and virtually free of snow/ice.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A mid-sized straddler/crawl that's an uprooted tree along the flats on the eastern side (about 15min after you'd come to the old chimney if you were ascending this way). It's at an obnoxious height right now for many, maybe an easier duck under without the snow. There was another walkaround or two and maybe stepover as well.

Comments
Comments: The trail is marked with the white trapezoids of the SRKG where it coincides with it (which is everywhere except for the short walk between the library and Pinnacle Rd). Markings are pretty regular.

First hike of the day. Great to have the company of a dear friend, Heat Lightning today. We traversed west to east as it's less steep with this way and involves less elevation gain. The ascent was moderate and through attractive woods as advertised. We wore snowshoes from start to finish though there was minimal snow at times, namely on the east side, and a few open wet spots, also on the east side. Easy enough to go around with snowshoes. The trail from the west side to the summit was broken but there were not many tracks on the east side. No matter, easy breaking and the snow was somewhat supportive though also getting wet and sticky with the warm temps. Note that the 70yd view spur described in the guidebook was difficult for me to find. I did not see any sign that said "Outlook". I *think* that the spur is BEFORE the summit bench. Two snowshoe tracks diverged to it. One from a steep section in the ledge just before the summit, the other closer to the summit. Not sure which was the true spur, either seemed plausible. I imagine this is much easier to discern without snow on the ground. Just beyond the summit bench, the trail splits. The left branch leads to the true summit and the right branch is the true trail. As the guidebook says, the eastern sie of the trail could be obscure but it's marked well enough. Gaia had us at 3.5mi, 600ft, 2hrs.
