Super highway, packed trail 19 Mi Br Tr to Carter Dome jct. Wore spikes to Zeta Pass, fairly hard-packed to the pass. Used snowshoes to Carter Dome and across the ridge to Middle Carter. Lots of drifting on Carter Dome trail to Dome, on the sidehill section and up high. Also many drifted-in sections on Middle Carter ridge that completely obliterated the trail. North Carter Trail and Imp Tr fairly firm with some postholes.
With the windy forecast, 3 Carters was a good choice. Great reward of Presi views on this clear day. Spikes would mostly suffice (mostly packed well by snowshoers over the weekend) but I preferred snowshoes for the ridge, especially in the drifted areas. |
