Made a mistake with my last trail report. Dicey's Mill trail is a sidewalk. You could certainly wear snowshoes, but spikes would make your hike easier and probably quicker. Just don't step off the sidewalk. It's pretty much smooth hiking even up the steep sections just below the Passaconway summit. The Rollins Trail over to Whiteface is similar. Some stretches are less consolidated and softer. My original plan was to hike down the Blueberry Ledge trail back to the parking lot but some hikers warned me the Whiteface Ledges were icy and possibly dangerous - especially on the descent. Since I was flying solo, I decided to retrace my steps. Made it back to the parking lot just after sunset. If you're looking to bag Whiteface and Passaconway, consider doing it this week the trails are in great shape. |
