| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The parking area just off Rt. 3 is packed snow, but we had no trouble getting in or out. The gate beyond there is closed for the winter, so one cannot drive to the Garfield Trailhead - a 1.2 mile road walk is required in both directions. |

| Comments: |
The entire route is a packed snow track made by snowshoes. On the sides, the snow depth ranged from 2-4 inches up to 12-16 inches. We used microspikes from start to finish, but one could also use snowshoes, and you should carry snowshoes if you are unsure whether conditions have changed or will change during your hike, for instance, if additional snow has fallen. The only steep part is in the final quarter mile, on Garfield Ridge Trail; for that we made steps in the loose snow on the edges of the trail, and some of us did butt-sliding in the center of the trail on the descent. |
