Unseasonably warm weather created a mess today, with a mushy trail, mashed potatoes. When I arrived at the lot, it was raining; this stopped soon. Spikes from lot to the junction near the Hut, then snowshoes up and back down, til nearly the end. Many postholes, at least most were on the edges of the trail (and not in the middle). Snowshoes are recommended, especially if you wish to go past the Hut to the Wildcat ridge and peaks. Of the 25 of so people I saw, only a few had snowshoes, and I saw a few folks sinking in the snow. Some of the postholes were deep enough to have swallowed an entire leg. Temp was above freezing the whole day. |
