Comments
Comments: It was warm, above freezing all day. The snow on amo is well packed but was very soft and sticky. We made it to gem pool in spikes, and traction was so good we did not swap for crampons there. A bit past gem pool some heavier members of our group started post holing, and put on snow shoes. I made it up Monroe and across to jewel in spikes. Others did it in snow shoes. Just a bit off trail and you will post hole knee deep. But at jewel for start of decent I put on snow shoes as snow was softer and we were starting to slide. I put them on maybe 100yds too soon, it gets a bit boney on early parts of decent. If it freezes up all that soft ice and water from the warm day, will make you want real crampons on amo for sure.
