Three of us went clockwise today. There are no problems going up and light traction is enough for that but coming down the other side, the trail had been completely trashed by post holers over the warm weekend. I don't know if I have ever seen a winter trail that torn up. Some of these are quite deep so we needed to pay close attention so we wouldn't twist ankles or worse. Difficult walking and snowshoes were impossible to use over the frozen post-holed trail. It would have made the hike nicer to go back the way we came. It's going to take a lot of snow to fix this one. |
