Very cold morning but the trail was in nice shape. So many frozen, deep post holes, but they were more on the sides of the trail, so easy to avoid. The holes were so deep, it had to have been a miserable experience! A few wet areas at the beginning, but the mud was mostly frozen. We wore our Hillsound Trail crampons, (spikes). Heading over to North peak, there was some drifting and choppy trail conditions, but we were able to stay on top of the snow without breaking through. When the weather warms up, snow shoes will be needed. It was a beautiful day for Mt. Cube and I recommend the short trip to North Peak…view of Moosilauke is outstanding and many other high peaks in the Whites. |
