| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I was originally intending to start at the Old Stoddard Rd. trailhead for Partridge Woods in Nelson but it hadn't been plowed yet. I drove around to the Brickyard Rd. trailhead which was partially plowed enough for a few vehicles. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Several blowdowns scattered along this loop. Good to see that the trail signs are being upgraded to routed wood. The original signage used vinyl lettering and it wasn't standing up to the elements. |

| Comments: |
Enough new snow fell here during last night's storm that snowshoes were the logical mode of transport. Maybe 4-6 in. of fluffy powder with some drifts along Ridge Trail of up to a foot. I broke out this entire loop over a previous postholed track. The postholes were mostly filled in but not always and I could feel them under my snowshoes.
Ridge Trail was difficult to follow in spots, even with the orange blazes, as the woods are very open and the corridor is not always apparent. My track wanders a bit in places but I wasn't far off.
There is a summit sign at "Blacktop", which is a former name for Osgood Hill. This designation has apparently been moved down the south ridge to an unofficially-named bump. There's also a framed viewpoint of the Wapack Range here.
Pretty cold along the ridges with the wind but the topography also provided protection lower down. |
