A FINE day in Nancy's Woods. I was very thankful to have Lil_Squirt join me today. Right from the get go, I was absolutely shocked that the trail from two weeks ago was still an absolute snowshoe trough delight. Considering every other trail is a post holed wasteland... Anyways. Snowshoes car to car. We launched from the crossing of Nancy Brook and able to find the logging road with relative ease. We where able to follow this until the eastern knob in the col. Despite knowing to stay straight instead of making the hard left - what do you think we did? Oh you know it. We found easy going despite this, with evidence of some old maintenance. The fun ran out quick as there is about 3-4 feet of snow up there and everything is somewhat ambiguous. We found remnants of a path that was a mix of super easy going and then it would be thrashing - sort of like those inflatable arm flailing tube men you'd see at a car dealership. Great views from the meadow. Thankfully the snow that came in did so before the wind picked up. I found out why you don't go straight at the summit from the meadow. We found the remnants of the fire tower and realized the high point was through the col. Sad trampers. Found some decent going just past the fire tower in the direction of the high point, but there was some baby bull in a china shop moments. Coming out was great mentally for having the track. Remember when we where supposed to go straight instead of left? Yeah that would have been way easier then the hand to hand combat required the way we went. We took this out. After that it was quite lovely, everything is still an icicle even an hour after being infront of the fire. Track is a bit circuitous, but those looking to grab Bemis surely will not complain about this. Attached is a cool article I found about the life of Samuel A. Bemis, this peaks namesake |
