Beautiful scenery along all trails today. Garfield Trail was pretty packed down so spikes all the way as I was the second one to reach the summit.
Turning the GRT, it was first tracks all the way! Spikes stayed on all the way down to Franconia Brook Trail then switched to snowshoes. The ridge consistently 4 to 6 inches of very dry snow. There were a few drifts that were over a foot deep. Ventured the short whack to Garfield Ridge West Peak only to find the canister bottom was frozen.
Once making it Gale River Trail, snow began to fall steadily adding another inch or two. Only saw 3 people from the lot until reaching the hut. Plenty of parties at the hut and the Frost Trail was plenty packed. Gale River Trail was also packed down well with plenty of prior users. Changes back to spikes about a mile and a half from the summer lot. Road walk was uneventful. In the end only saw 6 hikers while on the trail and another dozen while I was at Galehead Hut |
