The parking area for Surry Mtn. Preserve on Old Gilsum Rd. in Gilsum had not been plowed since the recent storm but parking was not an issue with the thin snow cover. |

This area didn't get much snow from the recent storm, only about an inch or two. It's weird that this part of the state does not have deep snow in February. :(
Underneath the snow was a choice of leaves, hard snow pack, or creaky ice over water, depending on where you stepped. Snowshoes would have been frustrating with the current conditions; there just isn't enough snow for them. I bare-booted out to the pond and put spikes on for the return trip for a little added traction. |
