| Comments: |
The trails Saturday morning were well established in the fresh fallen snow. While most people wore spikes, snowshoes (w/ televators) made the steep ascent up North Hancock a bit more bearable. Conditions up were much like the rest of the trail - established, but slippery in the new snow. Once again, snowshoes are your friend. The summit of North sported a pair of hungry looking Grey Jays. The hike over to South Hancock is more of the same. The descent is a whole different ballgame. If you brought a sled of some sort - good for you! For the rest of us, butt sliding was fun for a few seconds but be sure to wear your spikes or snowshoes to put the brakes on when you pick up speed. The rest of the hike back to the trail was more of the same. I found keeping my snowshoes on to help avoid the occasional posthole. While most of them are trail adjacent, some of them are on the side and you would be wise to keep your eyes on the trail in front of you. Special thanks for the friendly people I met along the way - Kendra, Grace, Jeremy, Kara, Sebastian ... and of course the ubiquitous E.T. Sweet. |
