| Comments: |
Trail between trailhead and Carter Notch hut was solid and packed, both micro spikes and snowshoes worked, we snowshoed to avoid possible hazards of frozen postholes.
From hut climbing up to Carter Dome, beginning quarter mile was very steep (alltrails map showed 85-92% grade in some short stretches), hard, jumpy, slippery and icy, MSR Lighning Ascent worked well.
Back down from Carter Dome to hut, the same snowshoes became a burden instead of a downhill traction device, but micro spikes and K-10 crampons worked in crawling with hands down; butt sliding without a braking or arresting mechanism may be too unsafe. |
