Comments
Comments: Nice hike, with skies eventually giving way to just blue sky overhead. Trail is hard packed snow with some ice here and there. The first half was basically a microspikes situation, with some bare stretches lower down. The upper half could be done in snowshoes, with care taken around postholes. It's hard to imagine anyone doing a trail like this in winter conditions without traction of some sort. Traction devices are so easy to find online and the aftermarket versions are cheap enough. I picked up a pair for under $15, with 19 half-inch spikes, as a backup for my Kahtoolas. I gave them a go today, up and down, and they worked well. I think I'll use the mainly these cheapies, with the others as backup. Durability over time is an unknown right now.
