Pumba had full knee replacement less than four months ago and has been working hard to get back. This was the first big test to measure how it would hold up. Success! Old Jackson Road was a nice firm trench end to end. We wore micro spikes but bare boots or snowshoes would be good. Raymond Path was beat up by a solo bare booter who went through yesterday or early today. Copious deep postholes for the first quarter mile or so, but not as bad after that to the Huntington Ravine trail junction. We smoothed it out pretty good and it should sinter up tonight and be firmer tomorrow but there is between 2 to 6 inches of heavy granular that needs more packing down for most of the trail. We went up and down the short section of Huntington Ravine trail between Raymond Path and the Fire Road to get to the Harvard cabin for a sandwich and some hot tea. It was nice to get out of the wind for a bit. The quarter mile between Huntington Ravine trail and the Fire Road was a mess of postholes from multiple booters. Not much we could do with it, but at least it's short. Tuckerman Ravine trail has a nice firm skin track up the middle, and an inch or two of soft snowmobile track on either side of that. Very easy on the joints on the descent. Raymond Path is very sheltered from a NW wind, so it was not as cold today as we expected. It's good to be back out in the snow!
