Comments
Comments: A west-to-east traverse of Velvet Rocks plus some out-and-backs and one loop-di-loop to grab the "official" spurs mentioned in the AMC White Mountain Guide.

Right from the start, we put spikes on and left them on for the entire hike except for one brief section on a south-facing slope that was bare. Thought we could get away with taking them off here but nope; the bare ground was short-lived. They went right back on for the remainder of the walk. Temps started very cold and warmed up to the mid-30s but the trail surface remained firm.

Overall, conditions were a mix of hard snow, ice, rock, and leaves. Definitely not February around here. :(

We met one fellow at Velvet Rocks Shelter who stayed there last night. Must have been a chilly evening!
