Comments
Comments: The trail was mostly a compressed snow or frozen slush track with many boot holes on the margin. Occasional ice patches, bare dirt & roots, and rocks. Microspikes or like traction was the best selections for the conditions in the AM. The surface was slightly mushy at noon down low. No postholing this morning.
Be sure to take off traction devices before ascending stairs to lookout.
Great views from Chocorua all around to Baldface and Pleasant Mountain. Mt Washington was totally in the clear at 10:00AM. The fire tower has a particularly good view of Carter Notch.
About a dozen or so hikers out today including a Berlin NH couple who watched the sunrise at the summit, some hikers from Mystic CT, and a family with two 6 year olds from Williamsport PA.
The trail conditions may change drastically if the wind, warmth and rain materialize as forecast.
