Comments
Comments: Great day for these two peaks I hadn’t hiked in a long time. Started in snowshoes, snow wasn’t super sticky down low but televators were appreciated on the steeps headed up to Crawford. Some scattered postholes along the edges mostly in the areas that get more sun but overall fairly avoidable. Snow became much softer in the open ledgy areas just below the Mt. Crawford spur, I was sinking in spots even with snowshoes. Snowshoes all the way to Resolution and back, trail was broken out but less compact, definitely more efficient travel than spikes especially on the side hill section approaching Mt. Parker trail. Switched to spikes once back below the last open area below Mt. Crawford spur, they made for more efficient travel and even with the warm weather there were some scattered areas of hard packed ice from butt sliders that would have been trickier in snow shoes, but sharp spikes got good bite all the way down. Davis Path towards Stairs and Mt. Parker trail south of Resolution were both broken out. The warm weather will obviously change conditions over the next several days but wanted to report general conditions for the area as there hadn’t been any for a while. Even though there sadly isn’t much snow in the forecast, the warm weather will make snowshoes essential for maintaining decent trail conditions over the next several days, please be considerate to your fellow hikers and wear them. Fantastic day with long ranging views and no other people seen!
