| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Overall the trail is in good shape but the SPNHF land steward will have a lot of debris to clean up when they visit. I removed some of the larger stuff along the way. Unfortunately, many of the trees on the lower part of the trail have been tagged with graffiti. The upper outlook near the summit could probably use some trimming soon to open up the view more. |

For the most part this route was snow and ice-free. There are a couple of short snowy stretches and one section of solid ice near the first beaver pond. I wasn't sure what to expect so I put my old spikes on at the car (where there was frozen snowpack) and left them on until the summit. They aren't really needed though. The ice is completely avoidable.
From the large cairn where the maintained trail ends I did the short 0.1 mi. bushwhack to the true summit, where there is a smaller cairn.
A chilly morning with the wind but the cold is going to be short lived as we quickly move on to spring in these parts.
(A note for high pointers: Wallingford has long been known as one of the three Weare high point contenders along with Mine Hill and Mt. Dearborn. According to the latest LiDAR data, Mine Hill comes in as the winner at 1,215 ft.; Wallingford and Dearborn are both 1,209 ft.) |
