Comments
Comments: It was a day for rock spikes. The lower trail had alternating stretches of bare ground, icy patches and hard, refrozen snow. Firm snow cover became consistent from about 2000' to the viewpoint. The short section of the Gorilla Trail to the true summit had alternating snow, with occasional breakable crust, and bare ground/rocks. The Canaan Trail toward the Ledges/Sentinel looked firm, with the snow cover reduced significantly.
Fun hike with Chris, avoiding the higher winds up north, although there were some strong gusts in the Ossipees, too. Out of the wind, the strength of the almost-spring sunshine was most appreciated. Views were lovely but didn't include the cloud-covered Presidentials on this day.
