| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking was no issue. I was only car on arrival. About 6 cars when I left the Whitehouse/Liberty Springs Parking Lot. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Not counting the bridges on Whitehouse Trail there was about a dozen or so crossings. Most are small. All were doable without issue, but it should be noted that some are ice, some ice/running water mix and some just running water. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are well marked. Some easily avoided blow downs. Lots of conifer debris from high winds overnight . |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw two fine dogs today. Not sure how easy it will be for them once they got to the summit and the icy rock ledges, but it’s probably not their first rodeo. |

| Comments: |
Used Hillsounds door to door. Bring your sharpest traction! Some dirt and bare rocks early on, unfortunately. Plenty of ice low areas but easy with crampons. Very doable going up with traction, but you will work for it coming down and having to dig in. Frozen granular is like pavement. Nice new dusting of snow on Franconia Ridge Trail. Beautiful views, windy, super cold windchill. |
