| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Large parking lot at corner of Hardy County Rd was plowed but had very soft dirt - I would be concerned without 4WD |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Spring Snow |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Most water crossings are not super deep, but, there are a LOT of them. Some have snow bridges, other ones I busted through the snow bridges. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Deadfall - I picked up the small stuff. About a mile up when the trail climbs past the cascades, I seem to remember a large blowdown - I could have location slightly off. I know there are a LOT of blazes in the beech glades, but, I still manage to lose the trail (not horribly, but, I often have to back track to find last blaze). |

Terrific afternoon after a fun morning at Tenney Mtn Resort. Snow super-supportive (of snowshoes!! - NO way I'd attempt without snowshoes!!!) for ascent, not so much for descent - I had some issues every dozen or so steps on descent. However, was super-nice ascent and good views. Not a lot of evidence of any sort of footpath snowshoe track - I am guessing previous snowshoers were able to just stay on top of the crust. I am pretty glad there are a LOT of blazes in most sections as the actual trail corridor(s) are not super-obvious to me. Saw a bit of moose scat and some recent bear (cub-size) paw-prints. Super solitude on this hike - didn't see anyone. Yay!!!! |
