| Water Crossing Notes: |
These are tiny crossings to start, but a few of the snowbridges are gone and a few are about to collapse. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns. One in the stem of the lollipop and two on the west side of the lollipop. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Buttercup did fine. Saw only other dog prints, no dogs. There was one spot where it was obvious someone had recently picked up their dog's poo from smack dab in the middle of the trail, and I really appreciate it. |

| Comments: |
This was not surprisingly rough trail conditions. There were some stretches where the snowpack was still solid, most notably in the beginning before the loop portion. Very many postholes in the loop and snowshoes were a must. I went clockwise and the trail to the east ledges is in better condition than once past them. If you aren't trying to claim a peak, just going to the east ledges would be a fine choice, at least today. At the east ledges microspikes made more sense for a bit. Between the east ledges and the summit, I don't think there's a perfect answer. It's postholed to death and snowshoes may help again, but spikes are helpful on the few small scrambles, which have some ice. Going down via the west side of the loop is very postholed and soft and trickier than the east side. It's just mashed potato muck. Having both snowshoes and microspikes was very helpful. It was still beautiful up there, even in the rain. |
