| Comments: |
It was above freezing with lots of melting. But Trail is in good condition with excellent snow coverage. Saw everything from those using mountaineering boots with step in crampons to bare sneakers. Most of us used spikes, a few snow shoes up to Pierce. Trail was soft, but well packed down. Go just a hair off trail and you will posthole to your knee. Snow was not as well packed from Pierce to Eisenhower, mashed potaoes, really needed snow shoes. Only a few bare rocky spots easily avoided until the last push up to the summit. Here there was bare rock, slush, ice and flowing water. A mess no matter what traction you choose. All the ice from yesterday was very soft so no need for crampons. But if it freezes solid you will want the real deal for sure. |
