Started up Tripoli Road xc trail. Saw signs for snowshoes [SNOWSHOES OR SKIS REQUIRED!] but used microspikes on the ice rink down the middle of trail and saved remaining edge snow for xc folks. Seemed the most appropriate for all parties on a warm post rain day. Road was firm all the way to gate.
Put on snowshoes for Mt Osceola ascent and kept them on the rest of the day. Trail a little rocky is some spots but snowshoes were the most enjoyable way to experience the trail. No bareboot postholes to report. By end of the day, snowshoes were breaking through, but overall trail was in much better shape than expected after Sat rains.
Great views of Tecumseh and Sandwich Dome on the way up. Had summit ledge all to myself and most clouds had cleared up along Sandwich range. Warm and calm summit. |
