Flowing but passable. The ice bridge at the last rocky branch crossing was still there in the AM but I don't expect one to stay. The ice bridge at the Iso Express crossing is half gone. |

Lots of trees down on rocky branch before the camp site. |

Glad I brought my all terrain amphibious snow shoes. Yes - you need them. Post holes were bad, even with snow shoes. Those snowshoes went through mud on the engine hill bushwhack, rocks on rocky branch and water on trail and at crossings. The bushwhacks are in better condition than the trail. We went in Rocky Branch to the camp site and going was tough. The trail went between elevated snow and running water before the water crossings and has blow downs nearing the camp site. Coming back Iso was the right move. The trail was firm and almost no post holes on Iso. The higher trail on the Engine Hill bushwhack is in better condition than the lower one. All trails are getting soft with high risk of post holes even with snowshoes. Bring waterproof boots. Though I make it sound bad, this was an awesome hike. Just not sure how long it will last before being too sloppy. |
