Conditions today were terrible. Its basically late april now. Below the intersection with carter dome trail there was a mix of ice, running water, and patches of snow. Above the intersection the snow got consistent enough to put on snow shoes, which I kept on until returning to that point. Higher up the snow was soft and if I stepped off the center of the trail I would posthole in snowshoes. I did ok keeping to the center with snowshoes on however. Snowshoes are absolutely needed right now. I would suggest not doing this hike until the cold returns because conditions were so bad. It was rainy with no views too. |
