Comments
Comments: Road walk to the trailhead is easy with little mud or ice. Barefooted to the trailhead where we put on our Spikes. Snowshoes went for ride today, but only because there was no sun and temps were in low thirties. Although the trail is hard packed, it’s only in the very middle 10” wide. If you stepped off to the side to let people pass you would sink in the softening snow. The trail is heavily post holed and deteriorating fast. With the rain and warmer temperatures for the next few days, you will need snowshoes. Probably should have put the shoes on after we came out of the trees on the last switchback as snow was softer there but we didn’t. This was an out and back for our group due to the lack of views, heavy fog, high humidity, and heavy winds at the summit even though we had all wanted to do the loop to South Peak and Snapper. There’s plenty of ice on the way to the summit but there’s almost no snow! What a surprise! We missed out on views but had a great day on this awesome mountain. Have to come back another day!
