Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are stepover blowdowns along the whole route that I was on, with the absolutely most impressive being the monster that fell at the junction of Shaw Trail / South Ridge Trail. Holy smokes that was a beast and the number of chainsaw cuts it took to clear it from the Shaw Trail was also impressive. It’s still blocking the South Ridge Trail but clambering over it is possible as there is no snow! There is a dripping wet sign that says that the bridge is closed on the Shaw Trail. I didn’t go that way so I’m not sure what that was all about.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw two and they were having a good day.

Comments
Comments: I meandered a loop up and over South and then up and over North, clockwise starting from the Round Pond parking lot. I was originally intending to go to North first but was drawn down to the pond by the fabulous morning light. Once there I realized that the South Ridge Trail went right along the pond, so my plan was made and that’s how I went. I climbed the tower up to where it threatens you with security cameras if you proceed any further. I’m a rule follower so I waved at the cameras, took some photos and headed back down. I saw a total of 4 people and 2 dogs. The trail was entirely free of snow and ice (and therefore totally worth 4 hours of driving for this hike). There are some muddy spots but far less mud than I was expecting to find. What a treat to hike in my old Hoka trail runners, sunglasses and a summer tshirt! It was easy footing, nice views and a huge variety of birds. I definitely recommend this route!
