Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridges are all gone or failing. The largest crossing is completely open with fairly high water. We crossed about 50’ upstream rock-hopping.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of trees snapped in recent high winds. Most of them aren’t blocking the trail. Many of them are frozen into the trail so will need cleanup later. There’s a large birch climb-over about 2 miles in. The missing sign near the summit clearing is actually frozen into the snow at the base of the tree that it had been attached to. The corner is visible, but I couldn’t get it out of the ice.
Dog-Related Notes

Comments
Comments: Snowshoes were mandatory today. Soft monorail everywhere. Step too close to the edge, and you’ll 100% posthole. There are some short (less than 20’) sections of exposed rocks near many of the drainages, but nothing worth removing snowshoes. We had some light rain and warm temperatures, with considerable rain in the forecast tonight, so the trail will be a mess tomorrow. Don’t attempt this one without snowshoes. Many sections of trail had running water underneath and large sections (maybe five feet long) would suddenly drop as you walked on the monorail. I can’t imagine what tonight’s rain will do to this mess. We wore snowshoes the whole time and didn’t posthole as long as we stayed on the monorail.
