Most of the trail has frozen pretty hard after the recent thaw. There’s a pretty hard monorail for most of the trail. Most were in micro spikes, although snowshoes with a bit more bite were really helpful. There were several extremely icy sections. These were ok to ascend, but careful foot placement was really important on the way down. The ice in these sections was pretty hard to get my micro spikes into. I eventually opted to use my snowshoes that had decent toe crampons. The trail headed to Webster from the intersection of the Jackson-Webster trail and the Webster cliff trail was extremely icy as well. I opted not to head down after a couple attempts to gain my footing, and continued up to Jackson. The last 100-200 meters of trail to the summit was also extremely icy. I saw several groups butt slide down. The summit was in the clouds, some slight flurries and a tiny bit of snow. I again opted not to head to Webster from the summit of Jackson due to low visibility, decent winds, icy conditions, and a hard turnaround time set out of a abundance of caution due to the storm rolling in later tonight. |
