Comments
Comments: Consistent hard snowcover & icy patches from the bridge to the base of the climb up the shoulder of Crawford with exposed water crossings. Thereafter, lots of bare ground, rock & ice to about 1,800ft, with water running down the trail in places. Snow is still deep along upper parts of Crawford & the ridgeline, hard monorail. Rocks near the Crawford summit turnoff mostly bare. Firm snow from there to Mt Parker trail as long as I hiked in the very center of the trail, but had it been warmer or sunnier, I would have been postholing. Snow undermined with water in a few places. Spikes did the trick through all of the aforementioned. Used snowshoes from Mt Parker trail to Stairs summit & down to the first stair ledge, where there had been less traffic & compaction. Side hill below the Giant Stairs was a slanted funhouse walk. Gouged my head on an overhang blowdown near the top of Stairs, bandaged myself up & then removed the offending hazard. Did not go up to Crawford summit. Noticed that the ledges on Resolution were mostly bare. Passed 8 hikers heading up/down Crawford & noticed one person ascending Resolution.
