| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I arrived at 7:45 am. I had no problem finding a parking space. At that time, there were 7 other cars. Around 2:30 pm, when I finished my hike, there were cars even lined up along the road. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Both were rock hop-able, but there were a few rocks with an icy glaze in the morning. So you may have to step on a few submerged rocks as well. You can always avoid the water crossings using the snow mobile bridges. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are a couple blow downs within the first mile of trail and one within the last mile to the peak. There are also two trees that have broken halfway and held up by other trees that seem a bit precarious along the trail, again one within the first mile of the trail and one within the last mile to the peak. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Didn't see any today, but they wouldn't have had any problem navigating the trail. |

| Comments: |
Based on previous trip reports, I carried snowshoes, crampons, and hillsound spikes. I ended up only using my beater hillsound spikes for those parts of the trail where traction was needed. The first 3 miles were snow free with some half frozen mud. In the 4th mile, I started to see ice and frozen snow, so I put on my spikes. There were short sections of running water on the trail. In the last 2 miles to the peak, the trail was well packed frozen snow and very easy to navigate, including the last 0.2 mile steep pitch. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how good the conditions were. I had a great hike! |
