Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The last mile of York Pond road was unplowed this morning, luckily it was plowed on the way out. It's a very rough plow job and there's still lots of snow in the road. I would only recommend attempting driving it with a 4WD vehicle with high ground clearance. Neither lot was plowed out, just the road
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy enough to step over with the exception of one that required some fancy footwork over some rocks to get across
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No major blowdowns blocking the trail. Could use some more trail markers/blazing before the cabin, after the cabin there is a blaze every 25 feet or so which was very helpful while navigating thru the drifts
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The trail is all very loose, unconsolidated snow. It would be a tough one for a dog until it gets packed down more

Comments
Comments: As I mentioned above about the parking/road it is very rough right now and the lots are not plowed. It was a tough solo day braving the winds and breaking trail. There was a new layer of fluffy snow that fell over the wet heavy snow from last night/ yesterday's storm that was whipped around by today's strong winds. It looks like there were a few people who ventured out yesterday, but it was difficult to make out there tracks in most places because of all of the drifting fluffy snow. The drifted snow made it a bit tricky to navigate, and I got off trail about 3 times. But I imagine that most or all of my tracks will be covered by the drifting snow by tomorrow. The drifts started out small down low (3 to 6 inches) but they just kept getting deeper and deeper till they were about knee high along the ridge after the cabin towards the summit. On the hike back most of my footprints had already vanished in the drifting snow. I used my big foot MSR Lightning Ascents with the tail extenders on today from door to door. I was glad to have the big snowshoes on today because the trail was essentially unbroken, loose, fluffy snow. And I expect with tonight's high winds all of my tracks will be wiped clean away and the same conditions will exist tomorrow. Bring snowshoes!
