Comments
Comments: Very cold and very windy today. The trail to greenleaf hut had minimal tracks, but we and the few others out there packed it down a bit. Still it was several inches to two feet of powder, and was hard going without snowshoes. Above the hut/above treeline, it was incredibly windy. Snowshoes would’ve been preferable to traction even up to the summit as it was mostly powder over dry rocks. Not as much ice as we expected. Whenever we did use traction, microspikes were preferred. When we tried crampons, they were ankle breakers. A surprising amount of snow even on the wind scoured side, ranging from several inches to a couple feet in the drifts. Note: we didn’t cross the ridge bc of the winds, so I’m not sure what conditions were like there or on FWT.
