Trail report from yesterday suggested snowshoes. I wore snowshoes from the beginning of Bunnell Notch and back to this same spot. I saw 5 bare booters, 3 snowshoers, and one dog sans shoes today. The trail is not consolidated and more soft in the afternoon as the temps rose. I got a later start than usual and the snow was sticking to snowshoes on the way up. Still some snow in the trees above 2800 feet but it was dripping pretty well by late morning. The current snow tracks do not follow the trail exactly but it will get you there. There were more off trail tracks as you approach the actual summit. No evidence of any tracks on York Pond Trail beyond the junction with Bunnell and no evidence of tracks beyond the summit on Kilkenny. |
