| Comments: |
The snow was different for each of the three miles of this trail. Down low the snow has already melted off some parts of the trail. Otherwise there is packed down, few inches of snow, quickly sinking down. The second mile has 4 inches of snow and some shallow post holes, as well as areas where water is flowing beneath snow. In the morning it was well frozen but in the afternoon it was soft. The final mile has more snow at places, snow in between exposed rocks. At this point I think most people would choose microspikes. I wore spikes when it was frozen and snowshoes when it was soft. But I don't think my snowshoe track really improved the trail much because it wasn't that deep to begin with. The summit has several inches of snow and the trail is not broken farther than South Summit. Snowshoes would be best up top. Absolutely beautiful area! |
