Comments
Comments: Parked off Rt 113 in Chatham in the lot for the Baldface loop. Started on the Baldface Circle trail then took a left at the junction with Slippery Brook. The plan was to do Slippery Brook to the junction with the Eastman Mtn and Baldface Knob trails as an out-and-back, but I didn’t quite get there. I’m not great at estimating snow depth, but it seemed to me that there was about a foot at the trailhead (less in well packed places under conifers), and a good several feet near the top of the trail. Snowshoes all day. It looked like no one had been on Slippery Brook following the past couple of storms, so the trail breaking meant slow going and the deeper it got, the slower and harder the trek. I was up against a time constraint and turned around about three-quarters of a mile from my goal of the upper junction. No blowdowns to deal with but I stopped several times to search for the next blaze when the route was not clear. The trees are great along this trail and the streams are good company.
