Was excited to meet not one but two Holderness Outback groups coming out on SRR after their 10-day wilderness experience. Lots of smiles. Bare booted Sawyer River Road on the way in, it was still firm and frozen. Switched to spikes through the water crossings, then donned the shoes for the climb. Trail was well packed down but shoes were still necessary once it started warming up. Kept them on the rest of the day, save for the return water crossings, where spikes gave some confidence over the slippery rocks. Road on the way out was pretty slushy. |
