Comments
Comments: Every imaginable condition besides a dry trail. Combination of bareboot, spikes, and snowshoes. Gale River Rd is mostly down to dirt, couple non issue icy/snowy stretches. First mile or so on Gale River Trail was totally bare ground, and LOTS of wetness/muddy sections. Then it became slushy wet snow and increased as I went up. Rock spikes were helpful here then after the second river crossing I put the snowshoes on, as it was like walking in sand, welcome to spring. Saw some very small bear cub prints in this area, right after I thought to myself "this looks like a great area for bears to den up". Snowshoes stayed on all the way to summit-a couple boney sections and tops of rocks poking out on the way up-but the snowpack is still quite high nearer the top. Trail was broken out by many snowshoers, with very very few postholes (!!) It was pretty soft wet snow. Not a wicked hard hike but a long and very wet one, make sure to pack a little extra patience too
