Hancock notch was well packed down and solid. Snow bridges were either unreliable or already collapsed from last weeks rain. A few post holes created from the weekend warmup remain. We used spikes up until about 3200 ft on loop trail. All the stream crossings were easily crossed. On the loop trail it looks like someone barebooted (why?) down south Hancock yesterday. The soft snow then froze overnite. Luckily a couple of inches of new snow fell early today. We switched to snow shoes before the loop junction and kept them on until our return down. There was a luge run created down the North side, removing most of the snow. It was perfect conditions for a sprained knee or ankle but the new snow helped to ease the pain. Hopefully the end of winter season will see the end of the butt slides too. With the cold weather forecast for this week, its a good time to get these peaks done. Overall the trail is in good shape. |
