A loop over Mt. Israel: up Wentworth, down Mead, out to Sandwich Notch Road on Guinea Pond, a road walk to Bearcamp River trail to the parking lot. Wentworth trail was dry until about two-thirds of the way up, then crampons were needed due to ice and packed snow. No one had been on the Mead trail in quite some time; most of the trail was firm snow and the crampons stayed on. Crews are actively working underneath the power lines at the end of Mead / beginning of Guinea Pond. The majority of Guinea Pond was hard packed snow due to snowmobile usage. Sandwich Notch Road is still closed but, like Guinea Pond, the crampons stayed on until just prior to the Bearcamp River trail junction. Beede Falls were nice but the area with the best views were solid ice. |
