Rumors of winter’s early demise have been vastly overstated. We started up Glencliff around 10am and believe we were the only hikers to summit today. A few skiers did, too. From the trailhead until about 0.7 miles below the junction with Carriage Road, the trail had been broken out by other hikers but was still very loose. All those hikers turned and bailed below south peak. From South Peak to the summit had ski tracks only, which we snowshoe-postholed right through. But, with 5 of us going out and back to the summit, it’s now got a nice track all the way. Glencliff is now 100% broken out and ready for the taking! We had the summit to ourselves. Not a cloud in the sky and winds not too high. |
