| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The tram lot was overflowing at noon. I should have taken this as a sign of what to expect. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The larger blowdowns low on KRT were either cleaned up or buried in snow, it was hard to tell. The step-over shortly after is there but easy, the crawl-under shortly after that has been limbed. |

A small group broke out the trail this morning, a few others followed after. The new snow in Franconia was considerably less than in Pinkham but still easily 20+". Kinsman Glade had tons of skiers and boarders as expected, so use caution at the crossings on the way up. I learned that many people do not realize it runs along sections of and crosses paths with a hiking trail, a good amount looked shocked to see people with snowshoes. A group of skiers were well down KRT and one felt the need to tell me I need to get out of their way and what I was doing was "super dangerous". I tried to explain that THEY were the ones being dangerous and need to get out of MY way because you're on a freaking hiking trail, pointing out the blue blazes. Then on my descent I was told by a skier to watch out or I'll get hit, thankfully I snowshoe faster than they ski.
The majority of people are cordial though regardless of what is on their feet, but Cannon today was not a place if you don't like crowds. Probably the strangest thing was the solo tent pitched directly in the middle of KRT just below the summit, you literally need to go off trail to get around it. C'mon man. |
