Comments
Comments: Lots of fresh powdery snow. The trail is fully broken out to Avalon. Snowshoes are required although I did come past a group without them, postholing (knee and waist deep) the way up the Avalon trail. Hopefully with all the snowshoers they got filled in. There is a steeper section that is difficult to ascend and descend. I sat down to slide this section down. Other than that it was a clear day with views of the presidential range and Crawford notch.

A couple important notes:
The water crossing at about 0.7 miles in has two paths broken out. The path that crosses the water crossing, crosses again to the right trail. Either of these trails are ok to take, just be mindful of navigation.

The A-Z trail to tom was not broken out. I decided to attempt going via the Willey range trail. From the intersection of Avalon toward the trail, there are two paths broken out. The left one goes though a bushwhack off trail. The right trail follows the yellow blazes. In the morning these trails were barely broken out. It seems like only a few people went to field via Avalon with most turning around.
