Comments
Comments: Brought my running snowshoes and soon wished I had my Tubbs. Mid-winter snowpack and it is soft! I was wondering if this would be particularly shortlived snow on account of warm ground melting it from both directions, but that does not appear to be the case here.

Old Mountain Road had a soft, but nice snowshoe track set. Slush showing in a few of the normal spots, but otherwise much better than I thought with today's warmer, sunnier weather. Sticky in the snow, but still powder in the shade; very little melting.

Tracks turned south on Crawford Ridgepole, so it was trailbreaking thereafter (hence wishing I had the Tubbs). I broke out to the summit and then widened on the return, but the footbed is by no means packed. Lots of drifts too.

Squam Lake looks to be fully melted, leaving a new blue view amidst the snow.

Sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 30s/40s.

Short version: snowshoes required for the next few days, then it'll probably be best to put this route on the shelf for a few weeks until either full melt or more snow.
